Female, American, Artist, undergraduate student, Caucasian, Liberal, young adult

American Discourse Community

The purposes and goals of the community is to have American pride and live by the the rights and laws set by our government.

Texts: Almost all texts are used in the American discourse community. If you want to look more on the American side, there are also American History books that people usually read in school, as well as traditional American books such as Huckleberry Finn.

Topics: There are also many topics in the American Discourse Community. From topics on the government and American History, to non-fiction books based on the American culture and society.

Terminology Lingo: Most Americans speak english, however, there is a variety of different languages spoken. Spanish is becoming extremely popular in the United States because of the amount of South Americans coming here to live.

To become an insider, one most become an American Citizen. Most American citizens go through school and college, writing many papers. People also write a lot of business letters and write a lot for their profession.

Artist Discourse Community

The purpose and goals of the Artist discourse community is to create art through any means to provide some sort of emotion to the viewers.

Texts:  typical genres of this community includes art books, photography books, or any other source that provides some inspiration.

Topics: topics written about this community may include biographies of artists, a selection of works based on different mediums, or books based on a certain type of art.

Terminology/Lingo: This community can have all types of languages. Art can speak through its own appearance and the way it makes someone feel when they view a piece of work.  As an example, A Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh makes me feel peaceful because of the motion of the paint and the night sky.

One may become an insider to the community by being interested in the field and making their own art.  Artists write a lot of poetry and usually keep a journal writing down their feelings.  Most artists put their emotion into their own work, portraying their feelings physically.

Liberal Discourse Community

The purposes and goals of this community are to be able to speak freely, representing the values and beliefs we believe in politically.

Texts: The Liberal community uses an assortment of texts such as, magazines, the internet, books, the radio, and television.

Topics: topics relating to Liberals include, the liberalistic views on politics and the beliefs and values Liberals stand up for.

Terminology/Lingo: A lot of people call Liberals very different things based on whether or not they are a Democrat or a Republican. Some may be good or bad but it depends on how people view things politically.

One may become a Liberal by having the same free-willed views as a liberal. They must be involved politically as a democrat and stand up for what they believe in. Most people in the community write in magazines, online articles, newspapers, or on television.

Cion Blog #2

When Toloki says that he is conjured up by a sciolist, he means that he was created by the author. When I was little I never really had an imaginary friend, but I did and still do have a blanket that I always believed was real. Since I was a baby, my parents always had my brothers and I lay with lamb skins. My old dog Tucker, however, always ate them.  When I was four, my grandmother gave me a new lamby and I've had it ever since.  Since I was four I always believed my lamby was a real person and treated it like one. My lamby is a male, and is super compassionate. Every time I searched for comfort, my lamby was always there. He always was there to play with me when I was alone, to sit and watch t.v. with me, and to always be by my side when I slept. To me when I was little, he was my best friend. So although I never had an imaginary friend, I had my lamby to always keep me company as a real thing.

Controversial issue

Major: Art
Minor:Psychology
I want to go to grad school for Art Therapy

controversial issues concerning art/art therapy include:
The whole starving artist aspect and how a lot of people think that going to school for art is a joke. Many people believe that a lot of artists can't get jobs after college.
With art therapy, a lot of people think that art therapy and music therapy aren't true therapies and don't help people with their problems and issues.

Thesis

After reading Deborah Tannen’s essay, There is No Unmarked Woman, I disagree with her statements concluding that there is no “marked” man in a world that is often seen as male based linguistically and male dominant.

Cion Blog #1

My host and I miraculously found a decent parking spot, dodging and fighting our way through an endless chaos of cars. A car itself was even weird to me, for I had never been anywhere near a place that had motorized vehicles, only animals for travel.  I got out of the car, blankly staring in awe, as the immense building towered over me, calling me towards its attractive glass entrance. We walked in and were immediately crowded by an abundance of people walking in strange patterns in and out of smaller rooms with bags of bought items engulfing their shoulders, arms, and hands. I had never seen something so industrial with so many people in it other then driving through the city.  I also had never seen so many people with so much money and just spending it on items that aren't essential to them, they just desire them.
Even though I was amazed by all the chaos, something else had caught my eye completely. As my friend walked away from me for a moment, I walked towards the center of the building where a large, circular well, shined with its earthy marble glow. In the center of the well was a piece of marble with a waterfall coming out of it, pouring into the well. What made me really wonder was why there were coins on the tiled floor in the well. I watched people walk by but no one paid attention to this wonderful waterfall. I was about to walk away when I saw a parent bring their excited child up to the well with a coin. I then heard the child's parent say, "Make a wish!". The child closed their eyes and tossed the penny into the rippling water and gazed at it as it sunk to the bottom. I had never seen a well in which someone made a wish into, nor have I seen so many coins laying somewhere untouched. This amazed me the most out of anything in the whole building. I quickly grabbed an extra coin I found in my pocket, clenched it between my hands, closed my eyes tightly, and wished for something I wanted the most.  When my friend met back up with me I walked out of the giant building with a smile, waiting for my wish to come true.
